On 6 August [DARPA](https://www.darpa.mil/) brought the “SMACCMcopter” to [DEF CON](https://aerospacevillage.org/category/defcon/) and invited the assembled hacker elite to attack it. The SMACCMcopter was the _research vehicle_ of the Air Team at DARPA’s [HACMS](https://www.darpa.mil/program/high-assurance-cyber-military-systems) program. The Trustworthy Systems team [worked with project partners](https://trustworthy.systems/projects/TS/SMACCM/) to deploy seL4 and leverage formal methods to protect the drone from cyber attacks.

The result? Predictably, sel4’s verified security enforcement [defeated the hackers](https://twitter.com/raymondrichards/status/1424230000144826372) comprehensively. As [DARPA said:](https://twitter.com/DARPA/status/1424752441900339200) “Formal methods FTW!”
